Anthony Bourdain Taught Us These Powerful Life Lessons

Anthony Bourdain was a legend in the food world! Throughout his career, he redefined travel by pushing the envelope. From fancy Michelin-star restaurants to seedy bars and street food, Bourdain had experienced it all.

He may have passed away, but his legacy lives on, as do the lessons he taught us. Here are a few that will help you live life to the fullest:

A Good Meal Doesn’t Have to Cost the World

If you’ve watched Parts Unknown, you probably remember an episode where Bourdain shared a meal with the then-president at an unassuming restaurant in Hanoi. The two chowed down noodles and cold beers while sitting on plastic stools and spoke like old friends.

The total bill? A mere $6!

One doesn’t always have to shell out a lot of money to enjoy life or make great memories.

Enjoy The Local Culture

Always eat the local food wherever you go

Travel should open a person up to new adventures. Instead of eating at universal chains or tourist favorites, look for places that locals love.

You may find yourself at a hole in the wall restaurant where no one speaks English, but the experience alone will be one for the memory books.  After all, travel is not just about the pictures on your Instagram account!

Do Not Take Food Too Seriously

Life is short, and people waste too much energy on things that don’t matter. While it’s great to spoil yourself with a meal at a fancy restaurant, it’s just as much fun to eat at a ‘Waffle House.’

Bourdain was seen doing that in 2015, and it solidified his image as an unpretentious critic. So, enjoy the little things and try everything at least once.

Follow The Crowd If You’re Lost

It can be overwhelming to figure out where and what to eat in an unknown city. Instead of wasting time doing your research online, get out there and follow the crowd.

Bourdain and his crew often chose places where they spotted lots of locals or went by word-of-mouth recommendations. If his shows are anything to go by, this approach will never disappoint.

Travel as Much as You Can

The biggest lesson we can learn from Bourdain’s life is to travel the world as much as possible. Mingle with people from all walks of life, see how others live, and get out of your comfort zone.

It doesn’t have to be an expensive affair either if you’re willing to sleep on floors or rent an affordable Airbnb. According to him, there is no better teacher than travel, and we agree!

Anthony Bourdain taught us that travel and food should be an immersive experience. Don’t be afraid to say yes to the unknown, because you never know what you’re going to find!
